The median of a set of numbers is the middle number when the numbers are listed in numerical order.

When there are an even number of data items in the set, then the median is the mean average of the middle two numbers.

In the set {16, 25} there are two data items, so the median is the mean average of the middle two (which for a set of 2 is both the numbers)

→ median = (16 + 25) ÷ 2 = 20.5

20.5 is the median. It is halfway between 16 and 25, or if you add 16 and 25 and divide by 2, you will get 20.5 as your result.
