In algebra, the multiplication sign is NEVER shown, because it might be confused with the unknown 'x'.

All algebraic statements indicating multiplication are written as 'number' followed by 'letter' (30x as given above). or letter and letter ( a X b = ab ).

Addition is shown with the plus sign e.g. 30 + x or a + b

Subtraction is shown with the minus sign e.g. '30 - x' or 'a - b'
