xy = 4

x + y = -3

x = -3 - y = -(y+3)

-y2 + 3y - 4 = 0

which can be factored to

(4 - x)(x + 1) = 0. So x has two possible solutions: x = 4 or x = -1. If x = 4, then y = -1. If x = -1, then y = 4.
