I see no reason why the percentage should be different than among the population in general - in other words, it doesn't seem reasonable to assume a correlation between being left-handed and being a criminal - or being left-handed and being put into jail.

A percentage is a pure number while money has a measurement unit (dollar, pound, rupee, yen etc) associated with it. The two measure different things and, according to the basic rules of dimensional analysis, conversion from one to the other is not valid. For example, a percentage might refer to the proportion of boys that are left-handed. I am not sure if that percentage can be converted to money in any meaningful way!
Move the decimal point two places to the left and get rid of the percentage sign.
