Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher and mathematician who lived around 500 BC. He discovered/created the Pythagorean theorem, whereby the squares of the two shorter sides of the triangles are equal to the square of the hypotenuse, or longest side.

His famed formula is: a2 + b2 = c2 where a= the length of one of the shorter sides, b=the length of the other shorter side, and c=the length of the longest side, or hypotenuse.
