ROCKFALL FORMATION, CONDITIONS AND PROCESSES
Rock fall is when a mass of rock fragments fall from a steep, bare, vertical slope. The conditions for this process are the rock must be well jointed allowing water to enter the cracks. This only takes place when the rock is weakened, i.e. the rock is weakened by freeze thaw, which is when water goes into the rocks cracks, freezes and expands breaking off the rock. It can also happen when the rock is expanded and contracted by the extreme heat which causes the rock to break off due to the constant movement of the rock. If this goes on repeatedly the broken rocks will collect at the bottom of the slope, this can be called scree.
Conditions
-Steep, bare and vertical slope
-Well jointed allowing water to go into cracks meaning freeze thaw process will take place
-Hot weather conditions, to allow exfoliation process (onion skin weathering) or cold conditions to allow freeze thaw process.

Rockfall is the fastest type of landslide because it involves the rapid downward movement of individual rock fragments or blocks. These rocks can travel at high speeds due to gravity, with minimal resistance from the surrounding terrain, leading to quick and unpredictable movement. The lack of soil or vegetation in rockfall areas also contributes to its speed.

Rockfall is the sudden descent of loose rocks or boulders down a steep slope or cliff. It is commonly triggered by factors like erosion, weathering, seismic activity, or human activities, and can pose a significant hazard to infrastructure and people in mountainous areas.
The type of mass movement that occurs when rock fragments or rocks fall freely through the air is called rockfall. It typically happens in steep, rocky areas due to gravitational forces, weathering, or seismic activity. Rockfalls can be dangerous and cause injury or property damage.
Large amounts of fallen rock are called "talus."But Rock avalanche is a proper term, as is Rock slide, or rockfall.
The type of mass movement that occurs when rock fragments or rocks fall freely through the air is called rockfall. This can happen due to weathering, gravity, or seismic activity, causing rocks to become dislodged and plummet downwards. Rockfalls can pose hazards to people, infrastructure, and the surrounding environment.
