Some people that still use compasses say maybe you are camping and you don't know what direction you're facing you even use a compass! Believe it or not are even compasses in cars! it tells which way you are driving. Also if you're doing a science project for school or something!

Ships and aircraft still have compasses, whether magnetic or gyroscopic or both, although navigation now relies much more on GPS. They are important if you intend walking in the wilderness - you might have a GPS device with you but if that breaks or its battery goes flat, you still need to be able to navigate by the map and compass you have wisely taken with you. They are also used by divers and in specialist areas like cave-surveying (though much of the latter now uses electronic range-finders for the bulk of the measurements).
