12 x 12 is the same thing as adding 12 twelve times.

12 x 12 = 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12

= 24 + 24 + 24 + 24 + 24 + 24

= 48 + 48 + 48

= 48

+48

+48

-------

= 144

@anonymous. Use the "make ten" strategy. So for 12x12 you first look at it as "10x12" solve that which is 120, and then solve for the part you took off, in this case 2x12 which is 24. Add them together and you get 144.

Well, honey, 12 times 12 equals 144 because when you multiply 12 by itself, you're basically adding 12 twelve times. So, 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 equals 144. It's just basic math, darling.

12 multiplied by 12 equals 144 because multiplication is a repeated addition of the same number. In this case, 12 multiplied by 12 means adding twelve 12s together, which results in 144. This can also be explained using the concept of area, where a square with side length 12 units on each side has an area of 144 square units.
