The answer to this question is actually quiet simple.

Consider the case of a/b. This can be re-written as r*b = a.

So, for 0/0, we must find a number such that r * 0 = 0. But what is r then?

The answer is 'any number' - so you might think we can just say that 0/0 = infinity. However (!), infinity is not a number - it is a concept.

(For proof of this, remember that Infinity = Infinity + 1 = Infinity + 2 - so, if infinity was a number, we could cancel by Infinity here to get 1 = 2 = 3... and so on. Since this is blatantly obvious, this proves that Infinity is not a number.)

Therefore, the answer to 0/0 is... undefined - there simply isn't an answer in numbers. In concepts, the answer is infinity.
