It could be the way it is taught. At my school, my teacher is making sure we get good grades but because we NEVER do anything fun or have any fun questions, it is everybodys least favourite subject. All that maths seems to be is arduous problems thrown in your face with nothing vaguely interesting. All other subjects have that glimmer for example in history we do lots of groupwork and watch video clips, in english we play work related games and watch movies and in every other subject, there is that something which just makes it a little bit better.

Now that the boring rant is out the way, I suggest doing a survey of 'what is your favourite subject' and getting at least 55 people to answer. I bet you money that maths would have lost out completely. If so, show it to your teacher. If you are too afraid ( so am I :) ) "accidentally" leave it on their desk and they will find it ;).

I suggest mymaths or coolmaths to help you out too :)

Really a discussion rather than straight answer topic, but if the teacher makes it boring he or she also makes it harder to learn. I can empathise with the questioner by own experience, and it was not until I started to encounter mathematics both at work AND in my hobbies that it began to have a point - and I began to understand it, little by little.

A lot of maths at school level is not actually "hard" - it's a matter of cracking the basic principles so you know what the numbers or letters are doing to each other, and why. It does help to be able to handle abstract ideas though.
