Fish finders and GPS navigation instruments all rely on mathematical programs to operate. Any fishing trips offshore need some one to calculate distance, time of arrival, fuel burned, etc. It is all math. Plotting thermoclines on todays chart recorders is imperative to target certain species.

no, i wouldn't say so. Fishing is all about instinct and exploring. I guess technically it could be because you are measuring water temperature and structure scan, but when you explore and learn by yourself, it becomes 2nd nature to you and instinct has a lot to do with it. Also confidence is key when it comes to fishing.

Fishes need to be at least a certain length to keep and you are only allowed so many per vessel or person. You would need math to add the catch and divide it by the number of people to make sure you aren't over your limit. You can also calculate the weight of a fish with a girth/length formula.
