By definition, velocity is a rate of movement combined with a direction. Speed is, by definition, just a rate of movement independent of direction.

480 MPH at 32 degrees magnetic = velocity

63 MPH = speed

The two are often used interchangeably in common speech but in physics there is a big difference.
