There's no fun in playing it safe. Why not try something a little unhinged?

To check if a number is divisible by 3 (that is has no remainder when divided by 3), add the digits of the number together and if the sum is divisible by 3, so is the original number.

This check can be repeated on the sum and so if the summing is repeated until a single digit remains, then if this digits is 3, 6 or 9 then the original number is divisible by 3.

48 → 4 + 8 = 12

12 → 1 + 2 = 3

3 is 3, 6 or 9 so 48 is divisible by 3, that is there is no remainder when 48 is divided by 3.
