There are 1000 grams in 1 kilogram, so you multiply kilograms by 1000 to get grams.

For future reference, 'kilo' in the metric system is a prefix that means 1000 of a smaller unit: So, kilogram means 1000 grams, kilometer means 1000 meters, and so on.
