Consider that the cereal box has six sides (area is the measure of the surface). Now you will have to do six equations to determine the area.

  1. Top - length x width
  2. bottom - length x width
  3. front - length x width
  4. back - length x width
  5. side 1 - length x width
  6. side 2 - length x width

...or...since three sides will have one other equivalent, provided all are truly equal.

  1. 2 x the top
  2. 2 x the side
  3. 2 x the front

Then add these.

I confess this is likely the long way around. there may be a higher math formula for finding it, but I do not know it. And, this will work.

If you are trying to find the total area of the cereal box, remember that it has an inside also, so you will have to repeat 1-6 for the inside measurements. Then add the inside and outside totals.
