It is 500.00

The two numbers to the hundredths place, on either side of the given number are 500.00 and 500.01 Both are 0.05 away from the given number so that does not offer an easy solution. Most schools teach you that a 5 should always be rounded up. This is wrong since it introduces an upward bias. Instead, using the IEEE Standard 754, the answer is 500.00

It is 500.01
Write 500.005 then add a line between the hundredths and the thousandth place 500.00|5. The 5 to the right of the line means that you can round up. If it had been less than 5 you would round down. So rounding up changes it to 500.01 The 1 being in the hundredths place.
