How do you round to the hundred thousand?

When rounding to a specific place, take a look at the digit immediately to the right of the target, in this case, the ten thousands place. If that digit is 4 or less, zero everything to the right of the target out. If that digit is 5 through 9, increase the target by one and zero everything to the right of it out. If the target is a 9, increasing it will turn it to zero and increase the digit to the left of the target by one.

1. Write all the digits which are 7 or more digits to the left of the decimal point.
2a. If the fifth digit is less than 5, then add the sixth digit followed by 5 zeros,
2b. If the fifth digit is greater than 5, then increase the sixth digit by one, and add 5 zeros.2c. If the fifth digit is 5 then the sixth digit should be rounded, if necessary, to the nearest even number. Add that, followed by 5 zeros.

According to many schools these rules are simplified so that 2b is applied when the fifth digit is 5 or greater. This is wrong since it introduces an upward bias. One way around that is to use the IEEE standard, as described above.
