How do you round to the nearest one hundred?

When rounding to a specific place, take a look at the digit immediately to the right of the target, in this case, the tens place. If that digit is 4 or less, zero everything to the right of the target out. If that digit is 5 through 9, increase the target by one and zero everything to the right of it out. If the target is a 9, increasing it will turn it to zero and increase the digit to the left of the target by one.

• find two numbers in the 100 times table such that one is smaller than the given number and the other is 100 more - and so bigger than the given number.
  
• find the differences between the given number and these hundreds.
• the hundred with the smaller difference is the one which is the answer.

For example, given 4237.43

• the numbers in the hundreds table are 4200 and 4300.
  
• 4237.43 - 4200 = 37.43 while 4300 - 4237.43 = 62.57
• the smaller difference is 37.43 so the answer is 4200.
