When rounding to a specific place, take a look at the digit immediately to the right of the target, in this case, the tenths place. If that digit is 4 or less, zero everything to the right of the target out. If that digit is 5 through 9, increase the target by one and zero everything to the right of it out. If the target is a 9, increasing it will turn it to zero and increase the digit to the left of the target by one.

6.4 rounded to nearest whole number is 6.0

Method; Inspect the next number to the right ( decimal .4, in this case). If it is less than '5', then the whole number (unit) remains unchanged. If it is '5' or more, then add '1' to the whole number.

e.g.

6.4 = 6.0

but 6.5 = 7.0

The two whole numbers, on either side of 6.4 are 6 and 7.From 6 to 6.4 is 6.4-6 = 0.4

From 7 to 6.4 is 7-6.4 = 0.6

So 6 is the nearest whole number.
