I wrote this problem out carefully, with columns and rows and paragraphs and indentations. The website appears to have notated it as an incoherent mess. I apologize. All the information is there and correct. Write each sentence out on a separate piece of paper. Contact me here if you need any further explanation.

I'm not sure this is the right forum to teach multiplication, but I'll give it a shot. Whatever device you asked this question on has a calculator. If you enter 247, then x, then 36, then =, you'll get the answer we're about to get the long way.

247

x36

1482

7410

8892

Sometimes this website doesn't allow us to copy numbers vertically. I just wrote five rows of figures. First row: 247 Second row: x36 (this is shorthand for "times 36") Third row: 1482 Fourth row: 7410 Fifth row: 8892 Rows 3 and 4 add up to row 5. You may want to copy these on a separate piece of paper if it helps to follow along. Multiplication is repeated addition. 247 x 36 is the same as 247 added to itself 35 more times. You start by multiplying each digit from right to left. 6 x 7 is 42. Write down the 2, carry the 4. 6 x 4 is 24 (plus the carried 4 is 28) Write down the 8 to the left of the 2 and carry the 2. 6 x 2 is 12 (plus the carried 2 is 14) Write that to the left of the 82. 247 x 6 is 1482. You're halfway there. Once we figure out 30 x 247, we add that total to 1482. The trick here is to write a zero first and then multiply 3 x 247The reason for this is that 30 x 247 is the same as 3 x 10 x 247 is the same as 3 x 247 x 10. When you multiply any number by 10, the shortcut is to add a zero on the right hand side. 3 x 7 is 21. Write down the 1, carry the 2. 3 x 4 is 12 (plus the carried 2 is 14) Write the 4 next to the 1, carry the 1. 3 x 2 is 6 plus the carried 1 is 7. 247 x 30 is 7410.If 247 x 6 is 1482 and 247 x 30 is 7410, then 247 x 36 is those numbers added together.247 x 36 = 1482 + 7410 = 8892
