Scientific notation is written like this: (number) * 10(exponent)

Scientific notation is written by moving the decimal point over until there is only one digit in front of it. The number of times you have to move the decimal over is the exponent you use.

Example: 786,450,000.0 --> Move the decimal over 8 times = 7.8645

Answer: 7.8645 * 108

If the number is a decimal, you do the same thing, but write a negative exponent instead of a positive.

Example: 0.0004687219 --> Move the decimal over 4 times = 4.697219

Answer: 4.697219 * 10-4
