This would depend on the size and number of bar placed. If you have a 10 by 16 slab and you are placing #4 bar 24 on center both ways… then one every 48" offset to make 48" squares might work. If on the other hand you have a 10 x 19 wall then you may not need any if the bar are straight and there is adequate cover. The intent is to keep the bar in proper relation to the surface and from earth. Check you local building codes for exact requirements but the standard for #4 bar would be 1 ½" min cover and 2" from earth, 3" if permanently exposed to and formed by earth. Hope this helps! Terry
