To find out how old somebody is, subtract the current year from the year that they were born.

It is easier to figure in your head if you first subtract the year of birth from 2000 and then add the number of years after 2000.

2000 - 1976 = 24, and 2008 - 2000 = 8.

24 + 8 = 32 You would be 32 in September.

Not exactly true above. As my answer states the person is only 31 and has not as yet turned 32, the question is "how old am I" they will only be 32 in September. the above only works if you are asked "how old am I this year"
You need to know the date. If you were born on today's date, whatever day you read this, OR earlier, then you are 37 years old. If you were born after today's date, you are 36 years old until you hit your birthday. People born later in the year can spend most of the year at age 36.
