LC would mean 50 (L) less than 100 (C) which is simply 50 and is just written as L. X = 10 and I = 1. So the number would add up to 61 but should correctly be written as LXI.

It is Roman numerals. It is equal to 61. The breakup is as follows: L= 50 C=100 X=10 I=1 As L is written left to C it has to be subtracted from 100, i.e. LC=50 and as i is written to the right of X, it has to be added, i.e., XI=11. Thus LCXI = 61. Roman numerals are dealt like that.
