144's prime factors are 2, 2, 2, 2, 3 and 3.

How did I do this? I notice that 144 is even, so I divide 144 by 2, "peeling-off" a factor of 2. 144 / 2 = 72. Then I notice that 72 is even, so I divide 72 by 2, "peeling-off" another factor of 2, leaving 36. 36 is even, so I divide 36 by 2, leaving 9. 9 is odd, so I try other prime factors (2, 3, 5, 7, 11, etc.) If you are left with a prime, you are done.

9 divides evenly by 3 leaving 3.

All the prime number "peeled" off through this process are it's prime factors.

2, 2, 2, 2, 3 and 3.

You can check your answer by multiplying the prime factors you found.

2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 = 144

Now try a harder one ... What are the prime factors of 330? I bet you can do it.
