Do you mean "what could you multiply to get 280 and add to get -27"? If so, then it can only be done with complex numbers:

ab = 280

a + b = -27

∴ b = -27 - a

∴ a(-27 - a) = 280

∴ -a2 - 27a = 280

∴ a2 + 27a + (27/2)2 = -280 + (27/2)2

∴ (a + 27/2)2 = -280 + 729/4

∴ (a + 27/2)2 = (729 - 1120)/4

∴ (a + 27/2)2 = -391/4

∴ a + 27/2 = ± i√391 / 2

∴ a = (-27 ± i√391) / 2
