Equivalent fractions are when there are two or more fractions that are equal to the same amount. For example if you were to have a cake and slice it in half (two equal slices using the whole cake) and you took 1/2 it would be equal to taking 2/4 or 4/8. These are the easiest equivalent fractions to learn as if you double the denominator, you double the numerator. You can also do this with mixed number fractions. 1 and 1/2 is equivalent to 3/2 because you have 2 pieces in the full one and you have one piece in the other cake, and 2 add 1 = 3 therefore you must have 3/2 but its an improper fraction so you must convert it into a mixed number fraction which is the 1,1/2.

Hope this helped :)
