Anything above 5 thousand is denoted by either placing a horizontal bar over it or by enclosing it in brackets. I can't show the horizontal bar method on here but the alternative method in brackets for 10,000 would be (X).

10000 is an X (10) with a bar on top to indicate thousands (M = 1000).

That is, X only with the bar on TOP of the letter, not on the bottom.
