first change 16 and 1/4 into an improper fraction. 16x4=64 +1 = 65. So now you have 65/4 (65 fourths) divided by 5.

When dividing fractions you are actually multiplying but the reciprocal. (In class we call this stay change flip). The first fraction stays the same the sign changes and the next fraction flips over.

You multiply 65/4 x 1/5. Multiply the top numbers 65x1=65 then multiply the bottom numbers 4x5=20. This is 65/20. Then you can change to a mixed number and reduce.

65/20 = 3 5/20 = 3 1/4
