I suspect that you meant 3½ × 3¼ as opposed to 3/12×3/14

To work with mixed numbers is is usually easier to convert them to improper fractions, do the calculation and convert any resulting improper fraction back to a mixed number

→ 3½ × 3¼ = (3×2+1)/2 × (3×4+1)/4

= 7/3 × 13/4

= (7×13)/(2×4)

= 91/8

= (11×8+3)/8

= 11 3/8
