1. A solid figure whose bases or ends have the same size and shape and are parallel to one another, and each of whose sides is a parallelogram.

2. A transparent body of this form, often of glass and usually with triangular ends, used for separating white light passed through it into a spectrum or for reflecting beams of light.

3. A cut-glass object, such as a pendant of a chandelier.

4. A crystal form consisting of three or more similar faces parallel to a single axis.

5. A medium that misrepresents whatever is seen through it.

A prism, as defined in the website bi-optic.com is a transparent piece of glass with two or more planes through which light can be reflected or refracted. The shape of a prism may vary from wedge shaped to parallel sides with connecting verticals. The objective of a prism if to disperse light into a spectrum.

Prisms are thus named according to the shape of its base which are always parallelograms. ie a hexagonal prism is so named since its base is a hexagon.

The volume of a prism can be measured by using the equation:

Volume = base x height

As mentioned above prisms are most ofter used to disperse light and measure angles of refraction of light.

When passing a white light through a prism it will disperse into the entire spectrum of colours being: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet (an easy way to remember the order of these colours is by using the name ROY G BIV)

A Prism is a figure having its two ends formed bs sides equal,similar and parallel plane figures while each of its sides is a parallelogram. A prism may by triangular,rectangular square or any plane figure.
For example, a rectangular prisim is a 3D rectangle with 6 faces. A prism is a solid geometric figure that has two end faces that are similar, equal and parallel. For example, a rectangular prisim is a 3D rectangle with 6 faces.

A prism (in physics) is a triangle made of glass that shows the refraction and sometimes the reflection of light when passing from two different mediums maybe from air into glass or fro water into glass .

answer 2 In geometry, a prism is a solid shape that continues the plan of its base to its top. A hexagonal prism, or a triangular, or a circular prism.

It is described as 'regular' if its sides are equal to each other.

(I may be wrong about the circular bit.)

In geometry, a prism is a term used to describe a polyhedron with a pair of parallel and congruent polygonal base and a number of rectangular faces linking the two bases. A prism whose base is a polygon with n-sides (or vertices) has n+2 faces, 2n vertices and 3n edges, where n >= 3.
A triangular prism is often used when studying basic optics.
