The terminology in the electrical trade as to duty cycle refers to the amount of "on time" as to the "off time". When referring to equipment that have a high current on time, it is usually using components or wire that are sized smaller than what they should be and can not cool themselves.
These components can not dissipate the heat generated quick enough and can only be on for a certain amount of time. This type of equipment is given a duty cycle. The duty cycle has to have an equal or greater off time to let the equipment cool down. It is this ratio of "on time" to "off time" that is the equipment's duty cycle.
For example, motors due to their design usually have a 100% duty cycle, meaning that the motor can operate continuously without having to be shut down to allow it to cool off.
how much of the amperage setting is actually being used
Duty cycle is a measure used to describe the symmetry of a square wave and refers to the percentage of the time that it spends at high level. For example if you have a 1 Mhz square wave the period will be 1us and if it is at high logic level for 0.5us and low for 0.5us, that will have a duty cycle of 50%.

480V about 20A 240V about 40A look at the nameplate duty cycle and efficiencies vary
First of all there is no definition of retangular wave. Maybe your retangular is my square wave. and the answer is inconclusive unless you specify the 40% level.
#6 You can use number 6 copper if you wish, you will definitely not overload it or you can figure the wire size by the duty cycle. If your welder has a 100 duty cycle rating use wire good for 52 amps or a number 6. If the duty cycle is 90, multiply the amp draw by .95 x 52 or 49.4 amps or a number 8 wire. These are a few more of the duty cycle multipliers 80 duty cycle(.89) 70 duty cycle(.84) 60 duty cycle(.78)Duty cycle takes in to account that most welders do not weld continously at maximum welder output all the time.
duty cycle is the total on peeriod in one complete cycle.
The duty cycle of the welding machine indicates the time the machine can be energised before it must rest. Given in relation to a 10 minute time span, a machine with 100 per cent duty cycle can weld continuously for10 minutes, while machines with 50 per cent can only weld for 5 minutes. Typically when welding by hand it is not necessary to weld continuously for long periods before letting off of the trigger which gives the machine its rest. When the machine is set up for welding long beads, such as with a track system, then it is important to have the 100 per cent duty cycle. Otherwise the machine will kick off before a weld is completed.
Duty cycle is the fraction of time that a system is in an βactiveβ state. ... The transmitter runs for one out of 100 microseconds or 1/100 of the time, and its duty cycle is therefore 1/100, or 1 percent. The duty cycle is used to calculate both the peak power and average power of radar system.
Pulse width is the time in milliseconds that the injector is energized, the duty cycle is the percentage of on-time to total cycle time
The width of a pulse and power are related by a term called duty cycle. Full power means the pulse comes ON and Stays ON continuously for 100% duty cycle. No power means pulse is OFF continuously for a 0% duty cycle. 50% duty cycle means pulse stays ON half the time and OFF half the time. Duty cycle can be used to explain the relationship between pulse and power content.
First off, the Duty cycle is the proportion of time during which a device or system is usefully operated. For a mass spectrometer, the duty cycle is the part of ions of a particular m/z produced in the source that are effectively analyzed.
The docucolor Xerox has a maximum duty cycle (number of prints) of up to approximately 200,000 pages per month.
union welders do the same thing non union welders do. union welders usally get higher pay and better benifites ex. health care vision dental perscriptions and so on

As of 2014, the average hourly wage for welders in Canada is $22.80. The average yearly salary for welders in Canada is $40,000. The rate is higher for more experienced welders.
