This is pretty simple, but not well documented.

The Scott's standard broadcast spreader setting is based on the number of pounds per 1000 square feet. For the product below, the application rate is 11.5 lbs/5000 square feet. If you reduce this, it becomes 2.3 lbs/1000 square feet... so the setting should be 2.3

Took me forever to find this. --------------- This conversion only works on Scott's or similar products that have a uniform prill size. If products have a variable prill size and weight this conversion will not work out correctly.
