You can't. One is a measure of area the other it a measure of length.

If you want square yards then divide the square feet by 3 and 3 again. Therefore 9sq feet is 1 sq yard. (9 divided by 3 divided by 3)

As stated in point one. You cannot calculate linear (length) from square feet as you dont actually know howmany feel long and how many feet across the squared area is. Unless of course you have these diamentions i.e. 6ft by 12 ft (72 square feet) 72 divided by 3 divided by 3 = 8sq yards
