Let the angles of the triangle be A B C and their opposite sides be a b c respectively then by using the cosine rule by a method of 'give and take' the value of X works out as 16cm. Check by using the cosine rule: (10^2 +16^2 -14^2)/(2*10*16) = 60 degrees

Assuming the 60° angle (A) is opposite the side with length x - 2 cm (a), then:
(x - 2)² = x² + 10² - 2.10.x.cos 60°
→ x² - 4x + 4 = x² + 100 - 20x.½
→ 10x - 4x = 100 - 4
→ 6x = 96
→ x = 16
