It's an 80% score. That's a D- unless a grading curve is used.
40 out of 50 points on a test represents a score of 80%. This percentage is calculated by dividing the points earned (40) by the total points possible (50) and then multiplying by 100. An 80% score typically indicates a good understanding of the material, often considered a solid performance in educational settings.

To get a 50% on the test, you need at least (50/100) * 35 = 17.5 questions correct. If half credit is not possible, you need to get at least 18 questions correct to get a score of at least 50%. A score of 17 will be just shy of 50%.
If the answers are all awarded equal points the Hassan has scored 40/80 x 100 = 50%. Kate has scored 40% and has thus answered 32 out of 80. (40% of 80 = 80 x 40/100 = 32). Hassan has the higher score.
Assuming the questions are all weighted the same, you can miss 5 and score 90%.
Minimum for CIEE is 50, for AYUSA 50; maximum possible is 67. (CIEE use to be minimum of 40, but has since been increased)

To find a percentage for example your score on a math test, you take your score on the test and divide it by the total marks of the test, and Multiply by 100. Ex. 50 marks on a test and you score a 45. 45 divided by 50 is 0.9, multiplying that by 100 gives you 90. Therefore your percentage was 90%

Personally, I score about a 40 on 9 holes. Most scores are between 50 and 30.

Your score is 50 percent. It's hard for me to expect that 50 percent would be a passing score at any level below graduate school. And I hope it was not a math test.
