1. x+y=-3 (or, x = -y-3)

2. x*y=-54

Use equation 1 to substitute for x in equation 2:

(-y-3)*y = -54

y2+3y = 54

y2 + 3y - 54 = 0

Factor&solve:

(y+9)(y-6)=0

y = {-9,6}

(x,y)={(6,-9),(-9,6)}

6 & -9
