There is no such time as 12 am. am stands for "before noon" and before noon cannot be noon.

The Latin ante meridiem, abbreviated as a.m., means before noon. Â A.M. refers to the period of time from midnight until noon. It begins at midnight through one minute before noon (11:59 a.m.) but one minute after noon is 12:01 p.m.
Am is any time between midnight and 11:59 just before noon. Pm is noon to 11:59 just before midnight.
am means ante meridiem = before noon (time between midnight and noon - 0:00 -12:00), pm means post meridiem=after noon (time between noon and midnight - 12:00- 12:00).
