Units are used to report the result of a measurement, not to make the measurement.

On earth, the most reasonable unit with which to measure mass is a bathroom scale

that is calibrated for earth's gravity.

After the hound has been measured, any unit of mass at all can be used to describe

the results, although different units will produce numbers that are more convenient or

less convenient to handle.

The kilogram seems like a fine unit for dogmass. Ours were both around 4 kg when we

brought them home, and with the repeated application of 15.9-kg sacks of food, have

grown into a pair of handsome packages of 41.4 kg and 50.8 kg.
