polyhedron is often defined as a geometric object with flat faces and straight edges polygon is traditionally a plane figure that is bounded by a closed path or circuit, composed of a finite sequence of straight line segments (i.e., by a closed polygonal chain). .

As nouns the difference between polyhedron and polygon. is that polyhedron is (geometry) a solid figure with many flat faces and straight edges while polygon is (geometry) a plane figure bounded by straight edges.

Geometric shapes ending in ...hedron are three dimensional shapes. Geometric shapes ending in ...gon are two dimensional.

So a polygon is a two-dimensional shape with many (poly) sides. And a polyhedron is a three-dimensional shape with many sides.

The tetrahedron, for example, is four sided (tetra) and looks like a pyramid. Three sides of the pyramid tetrahedron are above ground and the fourth is flat on the ground.

Polygons are closed shapes made of line segments. They are 2 Dimensional figure. Examples of polygons include squares, triangles, rectangles etc. A polyhedron is a three-dimensional solid made up of polygons.
