go to a gm dealer with your serial number
There are some website out there. That just by you providing your VIN number it can tell you what engine or transmission you have on your vehicle. As soon as I find it, I will post for you.

Take the VIN number to a dealer and have them look up the transmission option. Or, get on the Web, and locate the manufacturers site. There should be a page which describes the VIN codes for various options, including the transmission.
Do a VIN search and the VIN will tell you the original options.

how to find the owner of a vehicle using the vin number
One would need the owners manual to cross reference. It is usually a 1 for manual and a 2 for automatic. One just has to find the position of the number on the vin serial(it is usually the second number that appears.)
