A kilometer is a measure of length, a squared kilometer is a square representing the area of a kilometer squared. Each side is a kilometer in length. You cant really compare the two, length and area are two different types of measurement's I suppose based on the simplicity of the question, that a square kilometer is larger.

Since a mile is bigger than a kilometer, the square mile is also bigger than the square kilometer.
