Why do you have to be good in math?

You do not have to be very good at math. If you master basic arithmetic and algebra, you can do most unskilled jobs and live in society. However, if you want to work in a field that uses science or statistics at a college level, you need to be much better .

"good" is a relative term. To be as good in math as you are in any other mental activity, you have to work at it as hard as you work at the subjects you are good at. You must overcome any bad attitudes you may have developed. It helps to understand the underlying concepts, but people can become proficient in basic arithmetic just be routine practice and memorizing what to do. Math is more likely to graded objectively than subjects like art or social studies, so if you are getting good grades in other subjects by doing "extra credit" projects or appearing to try harder, you may have trouble in math.
