It serves as an electrical insulator to protect your from shock and the wires from shorting, and when placed near the ends (as a boot) it serves as a strain relief to protect the cord from pulling out of the device.

∙ 14y agoThe plastic around the wire is to protect yourself from being electricuted when the wire is plugged in.
of course but its main purpose is to protect the wire from various destruction and deformation due to natural and man made hazards.

∙ 13y agoAs far as I know, wires are wrapped to protect them from the weather and rust. The platic protection are used to reinforce the wire's durability and prevent it from losing electrical tension.
The very first reason they are coated is to minimize the chance of shorting out with other conductors. The coating protects the wire from shorting against a metal ground or other wires and objects.

∙ 8y agoAs with any cable or cord set the outer jacket is used to protect the inner current carrying conductors. Jackets are made of various hard wearing materials depending on the type of location and duty use the cords and cables will be subjected to. The wires are covered with insulation to stop them from shorting out between themselves and between themselves and ground.

No they do not have electrical outlets
AnswerBecause, it is a good insulator and won't conduct electricity. It is also flexible. It coated by rubber or plastic
The collective noun for retail outlets is a chain of outlets. The collective noun for electrical outlets is a bank of outlets.
When electrical outlets get old they tend to chip and crack. Also in older outlets the socket gets loose and the plug will not stay in the outlet.
plastic and metal
You can childproof your home by putting gates at all the stairways, making sure cupboards with medicine and cleaning supplies can not be opened and that all the electrical outlets are covered.
No. The voltage is the same but you'll need an adaptator to use either the English or the European electrical outlets.

There are a number of reasons: If the wire is electrical then it is covered in plastic as plastic provides insulation, this means that if adjoining wires come into contact the electrical current would not cause a short circuit. Normally electrical wire is cooper as it is a good conductor of electricity and does not oxidize/ rust easily. Secondly wire hangers are covered in plastic to prevent the metal (normally mild steel) from rusting. If they were to rust, it would cause orange/ red stains on your clothes.
Electric outlets require safety covers in homes with young children
The type of current used to power electrical outlets in the US is alternating current (AC). It oscillates in both direction and has a frequency of 60 Hz.
