There are 92 elements that naturally occur and several others that are man made. Things like gold, silver, oxygen, hydrogen, Mercury. Look at the Periodic Table of elements. That will show you all of them.
Sounds like you're referring to the chemical elements. These elements are the most basic categories of matter. They include Oxygen, Hydrogen, Silicon, Gold, Silver, Carbon, Uranium, etc. Most matter we found in nature is a combination of these elements. For example, steel is a combination of Carbon and Oxygen. Sand is a combination of Silicon and Oxygen. Water is a combination of Hydrogen and Oxygen.
