An operation is commutative if it can be done front to back or back to front like addition.

2+3=5 and 3+2=5

but division is not

6/3=2 but 3/6= .5

It means that if you switch the number's place it won't make a difference and have the same answer.

Example:

1+2=3 3x4=12

2+1=3 4x3=12

Subtraction is not a commutative property because if you change the number's place it has a totally different answer
