Community colleges are all the rage right now. Statistics show that more than half of the college student population are enrolled in community colleges. With President Obama's new college initiative that figure is expected to at least double. Here are a few steps college students can take to help them get the most from their community college education.

Step 1: Know which kind of associates degree you are really want. The A.A.S. degree is a two-year degree that is for vocational occupations such as business, nursing, fashion, graphics, etc. The A.A. or the A.S. degree with liberal arts degrees that prepare you for and allows you to transfer to a four year college degree. Make sure you are on the right road for which ever degree you choose because it is very hard to switch from one to the other.

Step 2: Don't tire yourself out. Again statistics show that most community college students are working as well as going to school. Remember that you can't work full time and go to school full time and not expect to be to the bone tired.

Step 3: If you plan on transferring to a four year college make sure the classes you are taking at the community college are transferable to the four year college of your choice.

Step 4: Attend every class scheduled. It is often tempting to miss a class here or there but remember attendance often counts for a large chunk of your grade. Be active in class discussions and assignments.

Step 5: Use the community colleges resource center. You can use their computers, career counseling, health centers, etc. Tuition and fees go for the provision of these resources so use them when available.

If you follow even one of these steps you can have a more fulfilling education. You can meet other students from different walks of life and experiences which can help you in your educational studies. One of the most important things to remember is that learning should be a fun experience and we should be open to learning something new every day of our lives.

If you take Statistics AP in high school do you have to take it again in college?

It definitely depends on which college you go to. Each college has a different policy on what they will accept as a replacement for a class. You need to check the college's website and probably their course catalog. Most colleges count a 4 or higher a substitute for the class, and as a result, you would not have to take it again in college.

Is education quantitative or qualitative in statistics?

Education is an extremely broad concept. It could include everything from all the study needed to earn a PhD, being street-smart in cities like New York or London, or life skills credit being applied to an academic degree program. What matters is your operational definition of education, what the questions are that you are asking, and what kinds of answers you want your study to provide. If you are interested in most academic uses of the word education, then in all likelihood you will be looking more at quantitative data. But then again, if you are focusing on subjective opinions of education, there could be a qualitative piece.

Scope of biostatistics?

In recent years biostatistics has become one of the most stimulating areas of applied statis-tics. The field encompasses the methodology and theory of statistics as applied to problems in the life and health sciences. Biostatisticians are trained in the skilled application of statistical methods to the solution of problems encountered in public health and medicine. They collaborate with scientists in nearly every area related to health and have made major contributions to our understanding of AIDS, cancer, and immunology, as well as other areas. Further, biostatisticians spend a considerable amount of time developing and evaluating the statistical methodology used in those projects. The Department of Biostatistics offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biostatistics and, through the School of Public Health, the M.P.H. and Dr.P.H. degrees with a specialization in biostatistics (see Public Health Schoolwide Programs). All students receive a balanced education, blending theory and practice. A degree in biostatistics prepares students for work in a wide variety of challenging positions in government, industry, and education. Graduates have found careers involving teaching, research, and consulting in such fields as medicine, public health, life sciences, survey research, and computer science. There has always been a strong demand for well-trained biostatisticians; graduates have had little difficulty finding employment well suited to their particular interests.

What is the best way to start data mining?

Data mining is a very complex process. Most people who use it have formal training, such as a college degree in statistics or information technology. They learn to use software that helps them "mine" the data, and perfect the technique through experience when they get a job.

What do you understand by tabulation in statistics for management subject?

Bear in mind that there is a difference of approach which may at first seem strange to students in sociology and related subjects. Most surveys are conducted by personal interview with respondents, and most analysis is of a descriptive kind, taking the people themselves as units of analysis. Another, and more rigorous approach, is what we call explanatory, in which we attempt to explain rather than describe, and in which we look at variables rather than people. Both approaches are dealt with here

Community College Education: Established Tradition and Wave of the Future?

For decades, community colleges have filled a much needed role in the U.S. academic system. They are open to all students (there is not a traditional “application and acceptance” process) and offer classes for lower costs than most state universities. Additionally, most courses taken for credit at a community college will transfer to other institutions, meaning that a student could begin his or her career at a community college and then transfer to another institution to finish his/her B.A. degree. Therefore, community colleges tend to serve students in transition, students who cannot afford to attend a traditional 4-year college/university, students looking to fulfill general education requirements (at a lower cost) before attending a traditional college/university, students seeking an associate’s (A.A.) degree (there are many fields in which this is the only degree required), adult students returning to school, local professionals looking to acquire more skills through certificate programs….the list goes on. Because community college courses give students a lot of flexibility (many courses are offered online or in the evening), they also tend to attract non-degree seeking students who are looking for personal enrichment (language courses, arts courses, computer courses, etc.). Also, many states have postsecondary options, meaning that high school students can attend state colleges or community colleges during their senior year and receive college credit for the courses taken. Many students choose to complete their senior year in high school at a community college because it is a great way for them to transition to the rigorous environment of a 4-year institution. Typically, community college professors are there because they love to teach (as opposed to some professors at major research universities who operate in a “publish or perish” climate, sometimes to the detriment of their teaching). A M.A. degree in the subject being taught is required for community college professors, but many hold Ph.D.s or other terminal degrees. Accessibility to students is a major priority of most community college professors, who hold regular office hours and are often available to clarify concepts before or after class. With the ongoing economic downturn, community colleges have seen an increase in enrollment across most programs and majors. Many students who would have in the past gone straight to a 4-year institution are now choosing to complete their general education requirements at a community college (for less than half the price) before moving on to finish their degree. Also, community colleges are responding to changing job market needs and implementing a variety of new certificate programs (in languages, computer skills, accounting, etc.) to help professionals advance in their careers, keep their jobs or beef up their resumes. Community colleges have also seen quite a bit of new governmental funding thanks to the current administration’s focus on accessible education. Dr. Jill Biden (wife of Vice President Joe Biden) is a community college professor and has been instrumental in communicating the importance of community colleges to both present and future students who are looking to acquire the skills to be successful in their professional lives.
