a math equation is a expression or proposition relating to math or numbers

for example: 1 + 1 = 2 is an equation

A math equation is any math sentence including an = sign. Examples:

3 = 3

3 x 4 = 12

78 - 56 = 22

77 - 34 = 12 + 31

3a + 2 = 5b + 1

rofl = lmao

The last one is a bit of a joke, but it shows (along with the second-to-last one) that variables can be used in equations. Here are some non-equations:

1. 6 = 7

2. y > 4

3. 56789 + 123456

4. I think the = sign looks like a sandwich.

1 isn't an equation because, as I hope you know, 6 is not the same as 7. 2 and 3 aren't equations because they don't contain equals signs. 4 is just plain ridiculous. Just because it contains an = sign doesn't mean it's an equation. In case you hadn't noticed, 2 is an inequality, 3 is a mathematical expression, and 4 is a sentence.
