∙ 15y agoSame reason there are dots on the "f" adn "j" keys of a keyboard - so you can touch type. I think that it is for blind people, so that they can feel around the keyboard for the dot, and use all the numbers around it to phone or text someone. Also, computer keyboards often have a dot on the "j" and the "f" keys.

∙ 15y agoIt has a dot on it so that blind people can feel and know where the numbers lay out because they always know where the five is.
The raised dot on the center (number five) is to orient the user who can't see the numbers to dial. When you recognize the number five in the center, you can correctly identify the other numbers by location in relation to the 'marked' button. The F and J on a keyboard usually have a raised dot on them to orient the index finger on each hand to the correct position. Very helpful if you use your computer in a dark room.
