New Mexico New Mexico is the southernmost state in which the continental divide is located. The Divide (essentially the Rocky Mountains) runs from Montana and Idaho, south through Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico.
Several major rivers do not originate in Texas, including the Rio Grande, which begins in Colorado and flows into the Gulf of Mexico, and the Red River, which starts in New Mexico and forms part of the Texas-Oklahoma border. Other rivers like the Arkansas River and the Sabine River also have their sources outside of Texas. Additionally, the Mississippi River, which flows through several states before reaching the Gulf of Mexico, does not originate in Texas.
In the USA, the "continental divide" is the Rocky Mountains range of mountains. East of that, all rivers flow to the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico. West of the "Continental Divide", rivers flow west into the Pacific Ocean.
